Celebrated “Lingualisualist” Edwin Torres to Visit Wright College for Poetry Reading/Performance

Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in an event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month!

On October 30, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:20 in the Events Building Theater, Edwin Torres, a celebrated poet and performer – and self-proclaimed “lingualisualist” – will join poet and Wright College professor Julia Cohen in a poetry reading/performance. A native of Brooklyn and longtime New Yorker, Edwin Torres toured as a member of the groundbreaking poetry collective “Nuyorican Poets Café Live” that helped revitalize Spoken Word in the early 90’s, and continues to perform worldwide. He’s the author of eight books including Ameriscopia (University of Arizona Press, 2014), Yes Thing No Thing (Roof Books, 2010), and The PoPedology Of An Ambient Language (Atelos Books, 2007). Read more about Edwin Torres on the Poetry Foundation’s website.

Julia Cohen teaches in the English Department at Wright College.  She is the author of two collections of poetry, Triggermoon Triggermoon (Black Lawrence Press, 2010) and Collateral Light (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2013). Her essays and poems appears in journals like jubilat, New American Writing, Kenyon Review Online, Colorado Review, DIAGRAM, and Black Warrior Review.
