Faculty Development Week and Transfer Update

During Faculty Development Week, the Student Services team was given the opportunity to address the Wright College faculty. In an effort to continue to foment our transfer mission, Transfer Director Susan Calabrese shared with the faculty key aspects of transfer, noting that for FY14 completers, we achieved a 51 percent transfer rate and had the highest number of transfer students in the district. In the faculty’s folders, she included the New Student Success Guide, and walked the faculty through all transfer related information that incoming students are being provided with at New Student Orientation (NSO), Part I. She also shared with the faculty the most recent developments related to signature programs and articulation, including the new articulation agreement with Arizona State University, highlighted transfer services and events for the fall, and provided an update related to the STAR Transfer Scholarship program as well as the Transfer Scholars program.

Furthermore, Director Calabrese emphasized the importance they have as faculty in supporting the transfer mission and how they can help to continue to increase the rate of transfer for Wright via classroom announcements and identification of students for unique transfer opportunities. In addition, she participated in all the NSO, Part II sessions during RAMS Week and provided a direct “transfer touch” to over 600 students. Her message to the students about transfer during these NSO sessions reiterated the importance of beginning with the end mind, establishing an account in Transferology, utilizing all transfer resources and being engaged in transfer related activities throughout the semester. This session helped to establish a strong foundation for understanding the importance of earning the associate degree and completing requirements to transfer.

In terms of the Smith and Mount Holyoke partnership, this year the representatives from these institutions will not be visiting Wright or Harold Washington as they usually do. They are scheduled to be at Malcolm X College for the district-wide Transfer Scholars information session.

We want to say thank you to our Student Services team and to the faculty for all they have done and are continuing to do to make transfer happen across the District.
