Get to Know…Christine Dzoga from Wright College/Humboldt Park!

Wright College News (WCN): Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Humboldt Park and still reside here.

WCN: What’s your professional background?

I have worked in education for the last seven years as a Program Director and faculty member. I am currently the Medical Assistant Program Coordinator at Wright College/Humboldt Park.

WCN: How did you become interested in the medical field?

My interest in the medical field started when I was young; my mother was a research pathologist at University of Chicago for 30 years. I spent a lot of time in her lab as a child. She was a pioneer as a woman in a male-dominated field. Her research — just recently credited under her name — has been used by the American Heart Association to create heart-healthy guidelines and in the development of chemotherapy.

WCN: When did you start working at Wright College/Humboldt Park?

I started here in August of 2014.

WCN: What does your job entail as the Medical Assistant Program Coordinator?

As a coordinator I have been involved in all aspects of the program from teaching to developing updated syllabi.

WCN: What were your goals when you started here?

As a coordinator I sought to build the program into a “best practice” medical assistant program.

WCN: What hurdles did you have to face in coordinating the program?

It can sometimes be challenging to implement many changes at a very fast rate.

WCN: What are some successes you are most proud of?

There are many, but I’m especially proud of our students for recently achieving a 100 percent pass rate on the National Certification!

WCN: Why should students consider applying for the Medical Assistant Program?

Demand for medical assistants will continue to grow. A medical assistant is proficient in administrative as well as clinical skills.

WCN: What’s next for the Medical Assistant Program?

We are continuing to grow and improve the program. We are making the exciting move to Malcolm X’s new College of Health Sciences in the fall of 2016 and look forward to becoming part of the new health sciences programs.
