Wright in Your Corner (WiYC) Student Center is a unique resource that integrates academic and social components to support student success. The Center is comprised of a team of academic and student service professionals able to provide a dynamic range of services to students including academic coaching, mentoring, and tutoring.

WiYC has taken the lead in developing first-year student support services that include the Spring 2014 launch of the Peer Mentor Leadership Program, which connects new students to the Wright College community. WiYC also developed Extended Orientation, which will work in conjunction with the College Success Seminar and SuccessNavigator to tailor curricular and co-curricular services to meet the unique needs of our students.

WiYC Spotlight on Students: Trudy Leong and Karl Solano

Trudy Leong

Peer Mentor Trudy Leong

Trudy Leong is a frequent WiYC visitor who utilizes the space for studying, hosting student club events, and working as a peer mentor. “Wright in Your Corner has been an invaluable resource for me,” says Trudy. “I study in WiYC daily.  Bradley and the staff at WiYC guide me and other students through the support services available at Wright College.”

Trudy is also a Peer Mentor at WiYC and completed initial mentor training in Spring 2014. “I am grateful to have been selected as a Peer Mentor, the enhanced orientation program coordinated by WiYC. I know I will be learning from those that I mentor, even as I endeavor to assist them in navigating through the college experience.”

Trudy is a champion of community college education and likes to share that spirit with those she mentors. “There is much for students to savor at Wright College, a pivotal expanse of our lives.  I will be transferring next spring to either Northeastern University or the School for New Learning at DePaul University.  I hope to assist other students toward transfer to a university and toward a deeper appreciation of every moment of our struggles and joys.”

Karl Solano

Karl Solano is not only a dynamic Student Ambassador, he is a talented artist. His knack for developing marketing posters and flyers has captured the interest of students, staff, and faculty throughout the college.

Naturally, Karl listens, offers feedback, and coaches students through challenging assignments such as public speaking. “I get to interact with and assist the student body at Wright College. It is unequivocally more satisfying and fulfilling to me as a person working here.”

For Karl, Wright in Your Corner offers a mutually rewarding experience. “Nourishing my brain by studying for class and helping other students with their work is an excellent way to free myself from the confines and regimented ethos of the ‘cubicle.’ I get to utilize my skills and remain socially dynamic working here at WiYC; it is a resource.”

Wright in Your Corner is one of many programs at Wright College supported by Title V funding.

Wright in Your Corner (WYiC) is located in S-100. WiYC’s summer hours (as of May 5, 2014) are: Mondays – Thursdays, 9am-5pm; and Fridays, 11am-2pm. The phone number is 773.481.8148.
