Great Books Student Society to Host Shimer College “Sample Class” and Faculty Symposium (Nov. 4 & 5)

Random BooksThe week of November 3 will feature two events from Wright College’s Great Books Student Society!

Shimer College Sample Class

Recently, City Colleges of Chicago and Shimer College arranged an articulation agreement allowing CCC students to take classes at Shimer College at CCC tuition rates! On Tuesday, November 4, from 2:00 – 3:20 p.m., Shimer College will visit Wright College and offer students a sample class, providing a glimpse into Shimer’s unique learning environment.

As part of the class, students will discuss two texts by abolitionist Sojourner Truth (attached below and available during the class). Pizza and refreshments will be provided!

What: Shimer College Sample Class

When: Tuesday, November 4, from 2:00 – 3:20 p.m.

Where: President’s Conference Room (Arts Building, A-103)

Great Books Student Society Annual Faculty Symposium (Topic: Subversion)

Subversion graphicThe Great Books Student Society’s Annual Faculty Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, from 12:30 – 1:50 p.m. in the Events Theater. This year’s theme – subversion – will be addressed by the following Symposium speakers:

  • Professor Vince Bruckert on Marcel Proust
  • Professor Ryan McCarthy on Jean Paul Sartre
  • Professor Michael Petersen on Shakespeare’s Hamlet

A Q&A session will follow the presentations – join us for what promises to be a rousing discussion!
