Inaugural STAR Scholars Graduation Celebration
Wright College proudly celebrated on Friday, May 5 the Inaugural STAR Scholars Graduation Celebration. Among the students earning degrees next week, 67 are STAR Scholars from Wright College. They make up 38% of the STAR Scholars from across City Colleges of Chicago and their average GPA is an outstanding 3.56.
The families of the STARS joined the celebration along with staff. President Potash recognized the strong work ethic and uncommon dedication of these students. Advisor Nelly Marcial reflected on the STAR class of 2017 and their noteworthy achievements. STAR Scholar Wessley Gutierrez shared his journey at Wright and his plans to transfer to UIC as a computer science major. Transfer Director Susan Calabrese noted the 17 colleges and universities in Chicago and across the country to which they have been admitted and sent them off with expectations for what they will accomplish at the four-year institutions. Many have been awarded significant scholarships from these colleges and universities. Our inaugural class has set the bar high for academic and transfer achievement for the subsequent STAR Scholar classes.
Wright faculty and staff – in particular our STAR advisors under the intrepid leadership of Associate Dean Maria Llopiz have contributed greatly to their success. STAR success is Wright College success.
