Thanksgiving Greetings and Gratitude

Check out the “Transfer Turkey” in Campus Center, featuring the transfer destinations of Wright students! (Thanks, Gateway Advising & Transfer Center!)

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already upon us. We have had a very full semester. While we work to keep everyone up to date with news via email, meetings, open forums, and Wright College News – I want to be sure you were aware of these developments (and some important thank you’s):

The Wright Emporium, located in the site of our former bookstore, is having a “soft” opening this week. Many thanks to the many people who put it together and to the mathematics faculty and the math tutoring team for their hard work and outstanding commitment to helping our students.
Our students regularly tell us that they need more space to work on campus. I applaud your efforts to keep them engaged and active.

The Emporium will be especially valuable as students prepare for final exams. The new facility represents another broad initiative that is helping students by educating them with enhanced technology and tutoring options. We also hope to soon have expanded space for the Writing Center next door.

Welcome to the Wright Emporium!

Welcome to the Wright Emporium — for tutoring, technology, or just a place to study!

Beginning Monday, November 30, the Wright Emporium will be open Monday-Thursdays, from 9am-8pm and Friday & Saturday, from 10am-3pm.

Also, massive gratitude to everyone involved in AQIP. First drafts from each of the AQIP subcommittees are being submitted this week. It is a very important deadline, enabling us to have a more complete draft ready in the spring for college-wide comments. Accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is a way for us to improve. It is also critical to our college’s health, well-being and reputation.

I am impressed with the hard work and coordination from Jeff Janulis and all those on the steering committee and working on the drafts, and grateful to Noah Marshall for his willingness to shoulder a heavy burden of writing and editing.

We are also in a season of giving. Please join me in thanking Iris Millan and the 42 student, staff and faculty volunteers who staffed the three Healthy Student Markets hosted by Wright this fall semester. Through our partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, we provided free fresh fruits and vegetables and shelf stable food items to more than 650 households and more than 2,800 individuals.

Thanks to… the Healthy Student Markets for serving the Wright community

Finally, I encourage everyone to cheer on your favorite team in Wednesday’s Turkey Bowl in the Events Building Gym. The festivities begin at noon (November 25). SGA organizes this annual event, a spirited tradition that brings together students, faculty and staff as we celebrate our community and friendships – something we can all be thankful for. And I am very grateful.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.

With all best wishes,

David
