Univision Showcases Wright Alum and CCC’s Advising Resources During Its Education Week Special
For its annual “Education Week” special, Univision’s “Hoy” (“Today”) show featured Wright College graduate Jesus Urquiza as an example of how City Colleges’ advising resources — including Student GPS — are helping students save time and money and reach their educational goals.
The segment, which aired October 8th, also featured Jesus’ parents, Associate Dean Maria Llopiz , advisors Elizabeth Castillo and Lizz Gardner, physical science instructor Andrew Kruger, and Wright students Alfredo Almaraz-Vega and Chris Riley.
Jesus Urquiza is a DREAMer who successfully transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) after completing his associate degree at Wright College in 2015. While at Wright, Jesus was a STEM Scholar and Student Ambassador, and he participated in the Independent Research in Physics program. He came to Wright from Northside College Prep High School.
Jesus earned a STEM Scholarship to UIC through the Minority Male STEM Initiative (MMSI). This CCC-UIC partnership offers CCC students guaranteed undergraduate admission to UIC after they complete their first two years at one of the City Colleges. The initiative encourages the successful transfer of underrepresented minority male students in select STEM disciplines.
Jesus was recently hired as an Environmental Resources Intern by Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., which provides engineering and surveying consulting services throughout the region.
Congratulations on your success, Jesus!
