Wright College Veterans Center Announces Veterans Day Celebration Events
The Lane Tech High School JROTC Color Guard will kick off the events at 11 a.m. with the presentation of colors. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and playing of the Star Spangled Banner, Nicole Reaves, Wright College VP of Academic & Student Affairs, will welcome event attendees and lead the moment of silence at 11:20 a.m. that will be observed across City Colleges.
Sean Miarnowski, the past president of the Wright College Student Veteran’s Association, will introduce the Key Note Speaker, Veteran and Wright College Professor Neil Sachs.
Professor Sachs’ remarks will be followed by light lunch.
The Veterans Day events are sponsored by Veterans Services, led by Veterans Services Specialist Ed Davis, and the Wright College Student Government Association (SGA).
In addition to the Veterans Day events, the Student Veteran’s Association and Veterans Services have set up a display in the Arts Lobby featuring a tribute video and pictures of Student Veterans in uniform while serving in the military. Student Veterans will also be distributing 500 arm bands.
Other ways to show support for Veterans include:
- Donating to the Veteran’s Clothing Drive: Collection boxes will be in Campus Center until December 1. Items needed include: clean, gently used clothing (Men’s Socks; Pants; Medium, Large or XL T-Shirts; Sweat Shirts; Shoes; Shirts; Winter Coats; Gloves; Hats; Long Underwear. Personal Items (new, unused): Shaving Cream; Razors; Toothpaste; Tooth Brushes; Combs; Shampoo; Soap; Lotion (travel sizes are perfect).
- Donating to the Student Veteran’s Association’s “Toys for Tots” Toy Drive: Now through December 12, bring a new, unwrapped toy to the donation boxes in Campus Center.
