Buildings and Environments Spring 2014 CoverThe Spring 2014 issue of Chicagoland Buildings and Environments magazine features Wright College on its cover! The issue’s feature article, “Green Thinking at City Colleges of Chicago,” covers sustainability initiatives across City Colleges, highlighting improvements at the individual colleges and those realized District-wide, including reduction of energy costs by $913,000 in fiscal year 2013.

The article highlights some of Wright College’s environmental sustainability initiatives, accolades and related academic programs, including:

  • Tree Campus USA Recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation (three years in a row!)
  • Bronze-Level Status from the Illinois Governor’s Campus Sustainability Competition (October 2012)
  • Collaboration with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) on state and national levels
  • USGBC’s recognition of Wright’s Environmental Technology program and Building Energy Technologies program curriculum, which both received awards for education from the Council
  • Wright’s educational opportunities in this field, including the associate’s degree and basic certificate programs in environmental technology
  • The LRC roof replacement project, which will double the building’s insulation, increase natural light and greatly improve energy efficiency

Dave Inman, Wright’s Director of Environmental Technologies Programs, describes Wright’s programs, saying, “Wright College’s award-winning Environmental Technology programs prepare students to chart a more energy-efficient future. Our courses cover everything from how to manage buildings’ energy use efficiently, to weatherization and renewable energies. And with photovoltaic and solar water heating systems and a green roof, among other sustainable practices, the college’s award-winning campus is a learning opportunity.”
